  • You will receive a rooted propagation in a 2-inch pot.

The Passiflora colinvauxii adds an effortlessly natural look to any space. It easily vines on lightweight trellises, string, or any vertical structure.

With their soft and dainty foliage, Passiflora are susceptible to defoliation and sometimes death from caterpillar herbivory. Due to this, Passiflora have adapted a variety of responses to appear undesirable to butterflies looking for a place to lay their eggs, such as changing leaf shape, drooping tips, and mimicry.

    • Changing leaf shape: The Passiflora collinvauxi sports different leaf shapes on a single plant which makes it great for ornamental foliage. Butterflies have a good visual sense of what an optimal egg-laying leaf looks like, so by changing leaf shape, the Passiflora might be able to deter egg-laying.

    • Drooping tips: This makes the Passiflora appear unhealthy or wilting, which makes the plant look unsuitable for egg-laying.

    • Mimicry: Passiflora colinvauxii sometimes displays small yellow spots on its leaves resembling butterfly eggs. A butterfly will not lay eggs on this leaf to avoid competition for its young.

  • - Light: Passiflora colinvauxii is an extremely versatile plant. It can handle varying light levels, from fairly low to direct sun (if acclimated). If exposed to bright light, new leaves will emerge purple and fade to a dark green, giving a gradient look. In low light, the leaves will be a lighter green.

    - Water: Prefers consistent moisture, not too wet, but also do not let the soil dry out completely. If there is prolonged soil dryness, the lower leaves will quickly yellow and die. However, even if this does occur, the plant will be fine and can bounce back easily upon watering.

    - Humidity: Does not require high humidity, although it does well in a greenhouse environment. It grows successfully in ambient room humidity and outside in California.

    - Soil: Water retentive, but still airy. The plants for sale are currently potted in a mix of 75% potting soil and 25% pumice.

  • This plant has thin fragile leaves and is not the best at shipping. Do not be alarmed if there are some yellow or dropped leaves, the plant will likely recover and grow back quickly. If the plant looks wilted and droopy when you receive the package, place it in high humidity until the leaves bounce back. Then gradually introduce it to the humidity of your growing environment. The Passiflora also has a weak stem, if the stem is bent or snapped in transit, I recommend cutting it where it’s bent and propagating the top cut in water. It will root in 7-10 days and the bottom rooted portion will send out new growth in 5-7 days. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
